Many organizations adopt AI tools because they promise efficiency. But efficiency alone can become a trap. When systems are optimized only for speed or cost, they can unintentionally replicate bias, increase surveillance, and devalue human labor. For systemically excluded communities, the harm is even greater. That’s why we believe how we implement AI matters as much as what we use it for.

Why Human-Centered AI Matters
When used thoughtfully, AI can actually make organizations more human. Research from the MIT Sloan Management Review found that when organizations combine human judgment with AI insights, performance improves not because humans are removed, but because they are empowered to make better decisions. Similarly, the World Economic Forum has emphasized that “human-centered AI is key to ensuring innovation does not outpace inclusion.”
