Working with Changemakers: Our Focus on Systemically Excluded Professionals

Our work embodies the world we want to see; the services we provide are linked directly to our values of adaptability, equity and stewardship. We believe real change comes from adaptable, responsive organizations; actions that lead to a more equitable distribution of power; and a collective desire to leave the planet better than we found it. These values have shaped our focus around working with who we like to call ‘systemically excluded professionals’. To us, this means the ‘global majority’ (ie; everyone but white, cis-gendered men).

What is a changemaker?

A changemaker is someone who is actively seeking to bring out positive and meaningful change. They are visionaries who are unafraid to call out injustice, uplift voices that are seldom heard, and who value the betterment of the whole over their own personal gain.

To tackle the many social oppressions that are still very prevalent today, we know we need to start small but steady, and with one leader at a time. Triple Creeks’ work centers around the empowerment of the global majority into places of influence. We support non-white, non-male faces to become business owners and non-profit executives armed with the tools to create real, lasting change within their own communities. Through this work, we hope we inspire others to find out how to be a changemaker in their own way.

Sera, Founder & Consultant at Triple Creeks, a white woman, likes to joke with her clients that part of her superpower is that she “speaks white people”. Being thoroughly trained in the urgency, perfectionism, and deadline-oriented nature of white, patriarchal, and capitalist culture, she has learned to speak very well to all of the loopholes and bureaucracy that needs to be navigated.

Sera’s ancestors come from Jewish origin. In fact, this has been the role of Jewish people for centuries (maybe she learned how to become a changemaker through an ancestral calling?) She wears this translator hat with a lot of our clients, supporting the administrative, bureaucratic behind-the-scenes of their organizations to support their projects to bloom brilliantly. Here’s an example, from the mouths of one of our clients, AgileTech Accounting, about their experience working with us:

“We were very pleased with Triple Creeks services & how they helped us build the fundamental processes & systems of our organization … One of the unique attributes of their services is their focus on assisting black-owned businesses & understanding the complex & historical dynamics that play into evening out the playing field for black business owners … any small business owner can greatly benefit from their services, especially if they’re heavily client-focused.”

According to Harvard Business Review, “17% of Black women are in the process of starting or running new businesses. That’s compared to just 10% of white women, and 15% of white men in the United States.” We believe that systemic change is coming (albeit much too slowly for what we’d prefer), and it’s our role to facilitate this change happening.
